Welcome to Our Forest Gardens

The Living Centre, founded in 1983, is a 50-acre educational sanctuary located in the heart of the Carolinian bioregion, which is known for having more biodiversity than any other Canadian bioregion. The milder climate, longer summers, and lower snowfall have supported the creation of The Living Centre’s diverse landscapes, such as wild meadows, ponds, organic fruit orchards, gardens and a native plant medicine trail that takes you into the beautiful Carolinian forest.

Sacred Medicine Wheel Herb Garden

The Medicine Wheel Garden was established in 1983 to promote herbal education and nature awareness. It has become one of the most diverse gardens in Canada, with over 500 species of medicinal and edible herbs. The first item planted in the garden was a Peace Pole, with the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” inscribed in four different languages. This serves as a reminder to all visitors that peace is always an option.

The Living Centre has a diverse range of gardens that provide nourishment. The sacred medicine wheel garden is a medicinal and edible plant source in the Apothecary Clinic. Additionally, we have tea gardens, a reciprocity garden, a vegetable garden, wildflower gardens, and other gardens that offer abundant nourishment.

We welcome you to join us and be nourished within the beauty of our Earth Sanctuary.
